Hunters Can Help Fight Hunger in the Southern Tier

Did you know that one deer provides approximately 160 servings of highly nutritious ground venison to those in need?

The Venison Donation Program partners with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to help those in need. Legally tagged and properly field-dressed deer can be taken to participating processors at NO COST TO THE HUNTER. The venison is then processed and packaged according to the law and picked up by the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for distribution to neighbors in need through our network of member agencies, such as soup kitchens and food pantries.

Since 1999, more than 413 tons of highly nutritious venison have been distributed in New York State through the Venison Donation Program. This equals 3,308,568 meals served to those in need.

For the 2012 season, if one out of every 100 deer is donated, the program could easily reach 100,000 pounds of venison to feed the hungry

In 2012, 6.580 pounds of venison was donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
