Keynote Speaker: Celeste Licorish, Co-ordinator, Speak Now Hamilton: Stories Worth Hearing

More about Celeste: Celeste is a single mom with multiple kids and multiple passions – not the least of which is to make her city - Hamilton, Canada - a better place for her family and for people who live there – especially those who struggle with poverty and marginalization.

Celeste was born and raised in Toronto, moved to Hamilton to attend McMaster University where she received a degree in Philosophy and has called Hamilton home ever since. Her diverse background includes a wide range of activities - public relations, marketing, limo driving and carpentry but has found her calling and gift in the creation and development of Speak Now Hamilton Speakers Bureau: Stories worth hearing - a project of the city's Roundtable for Poverty Reduction.

Celeste believes in the power of stories. She used her personal experiences with poverty to build Speak Now - a collective of individuals living in poverty who share their stories and perspectives to promote educated dialogue and advocate for change. Their stories are changing the way people see themselves and their community.

When she’s not booking and attending speaking engagements for Speak Now, Celeste is busy in the community with her three daughters, and two cats at her home in the heart of East Hamilton. She hopes her story will engage and inspire you.

Distribution Award – will be determined by Food Bank of the Southern Tier staff

Please note changes to this year's conference:

  • We will cap the number of attendees from the network at approximately 170 in order to accommodate our workshop facilitators and staff, so please register early.
  • There will be no day-of registration.
  • There is a limit of three attendees per agency so that we can make sure as many agencies as possible get to send a representative. For this reason there will also be no Community Spirit Award.
  • There will be no Bernie Seiser Volunteer of the Year Award as a result of feedback we have received from agencies telling us that it’s very difficult to choose just one volunteer over others.
