ADVOCACY ALERT - Child Nutrition Reauthorization 2015

The Food Bank of the Southern Tier will be focusing much of our advocacy efforts in 2015 on the upcoming Child Nutrition Reauthorization legislation. Every 5 years Congress must re-authorize funding for all federal school meal and child nutrition programs, which provide funding to ensure that low-income children have access to healthy and nutritious food. The Food Bank thanks all the individuals and groups that made Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service a "day on not a day off".

Food Bank Hosts National Day of Service
On January 19th, over 100 volunteers gathered at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to serve their communities in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Thanks to their efforts 13,758 pounds of bulk frozen food was processed, double the amount processed on a typical day! Over 700 packs were also assembled for distribution through our BackPack Program™.

Starting on the King Holiday and continuing throughout the year, volunteer service is a powerful way to tackle tough problems and advance social justice. Thanks to all the individuals and the following groups: Boy Scout Troop 2 from Corning and Access Midstream employees.
