Corning Employees Pack a Punch Against Childhood Hunger
More than 100 Corning Incorporated employees came together for the annual Corning Leader of the Pack BackPack Challenge, racing to pack 4,800 backpacks filled with nutritious food for children experiencing food insecurity across the Southern Tier.
This year, the event also marked the culmination of Glass & Giving: 175 Years & $175K, which began with a $175,000 match from Wendell Weeks and Kim Frock and was amplified by the generous support of Eric and Lee Musser, who provided an additional $175,000 match. Employee fundraising added to the momentum, bringing the total raised to $850,000 — enough to provide nearly 2.6 million meals for children in the region.
“Giving back in this way is at the heart of who we are at Corning,” said Wendell P. Weeks, Chairman, CEO, and President of Corning Incorporated. “When our community thrives, we all thrive.”
Mark Bordeau, President & CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, added, “The energy and generosity of Corning employees ensures thousands of children have nourishing food when school meals are not available.”
Because of efforts like this, the Food Bank is able to support 97 youth program locations, helping children thrive year-round.
