Thank you to all the hard-working staff and cashiers, along with the incredibly generous customers for making the 2024 Check Out Hunger campaign successful, totaling over 600,000 meals!

For 31 years, the Southern Tier has been coming together at the grocery store for Wegmans Check Out Hunger customer campaigns. Together, you, the customers, have come together and collectively raised more than $2 million for hunger relief, resulting in the distribution of over six million meals for those experiencing hunger throughout our communities.

One cashier, Camden Sortore, from the Corning Wegmans, was really inspired by the campaign, describing it as almost magical. His magic worked! In the 2024 effort, he raised more funds than any other cashier in all of the Southern Tier Wegmans stores, partnering with customers to generate over 11,000 meals. He thinks it is great to be part of such a wonderful cause. He said that while at first some customers are skeptical about the effort and how funds are used, he builds trust by explaining how funds go to people in our community. His favorite fact to share is that every penny counts, with $0.33 equaling a meal.

This all only works if we work together to unite as a community to make sure everyone stays healthy.” – Camden Sortore

Throughout the 2024 campaign, Camden raised the most money of any cashier in the Southern Tier Wegmans stores. Camden finds that it is great to be part of such a wonderful cause and looks forward to future Wegmans Check Out Hunger campaigns (Fall 2025)!
